Missions

Grace Church defines “missions” as the intentionally gospel-centered,
cross-cultural work to make disciples of all nations through the means of prayer,
evangelism, discipleship, and church planting to the glory of God.

The Biblical Mandate of Making Disciples

The mandate for missions was given to the church by the Lord Jesus Christ. GCO believes that the Great Commission belongs to every Christian and every local church. Jesus commanded, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18-20). Before his ascension, the Lord spoke further to his disciples, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8). This same commission has been handed down to all Christians today. GCO accepts the commission of our Lord, and commits to go about the work of making disciples of all nations and to present a faithful witness of Jesus Christ to the end of the earth.

The Three Crucial Components of Missions

Though there are many good works in which faithful believers may engage among the nations, we believe that missions are distinguished by three crucial components: (1) prayer for the nations; (2) evangelism and discipleship; and (3) church planting/church strengthening.
